Journal Entry 3
How did you experience standardized testing when you were a student? Were you a good test taker or did testing make you nervous? Were there test you enjoyed taking? What was your learning experience during the Pandemic?
I have always struggled with standardized testing, and it remains a significant weakness of mine. Even though I have been out of school for quite some time, the memory of taking the Graduation Exam in high school is still in my mind. Testing has always been a source of nervousness for me, but knowing that this particular test would determine my academic success or failure really impacted my anxiety. Regardless of how well I prepared, testing never failed to make me nervous, and to this day, the thought of taking a test is enough to make me anxious.
The Pandemic presented a unique experience, marked by a scary time of unexpected moments. As a pre-k aid, I had the opportunity to glimpse into students home lives through weekly Zoom calls, which was a valuable experience. However, I believe students missed out on crucial opportunities to develop those social-emotional skills and learn school routines. The pandemic was an intriguing time to be alive, and I feel fortunate that my family remained healthy throughout, and my children were at an age where they could continue to excel academically without face-to-face instruction.
